Taylor Riggs is in his fifth season as an assistant with the women’s golf program, having been promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2023-24 season.
During his four seasons in Ames, Riggs has helped the Cyclones to four-straight NCAA Regional appearances and a trip to the NCAA Championships in 2025. In addition to the postseason appearances, the Cyclones have set numerous school and NCAA records in his time in Ames.
Iowa State's 2025 postseason run was one of the best in school history, turning in the best NCAA Championship finish in program history. The Cyclones finished in 22nd at the NCAA Championships, the highest finish in school history. Pammy Chookaew (T-55th) and Keeley Marx (T-63rd) became the first duo in school history to both finish in the Top 75 at the NCAA Championships. At the NCAA Lubbock Regional, Iowa State finished in third to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Chookaew, Marx and Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn all tied for eighth place to lead the Cyclones, while Nichakorn Pinprayoon added a 19th place finish. At the 2025 Big 12 Championship, Chookaew and Chul-Ak-Sorn both tied for fifth, earning all-tournament honors. Iowa State picked up a pair of team titles during the regular season, while adding a pair of individual titles in those events as well. The Cyclones won the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic and the Bama Beach Bash, with Chookaew winning the Bama Beach Bash and Chul-Ak-Sorn taking medalist honors at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
The Cyclones finished as the Big 12 Runner-Up in 2024 behind record-setting performances by Liyana Durisic and Chul-Ak-Sorn. The duo earned co-medalist honors, the first time in Big 12 history a pair of teammates shared the top spot on the leaderboard. They each shot a 207 for the championship, the lowest score by a Cyclone in conference championship history and the fourth-lowest in Big 12 history. Iowa State's 863 over 54 holes was the lowest at a conference championship in school history. Iowa State finished seventh at the NCAA Bryan Regional, led by Durisic's 12th place finish with a 217.
Iowa State returned to the NCAA Regionals for the 13th-straight time in 2022-23. After a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship, the Cyclonitas placed sixth at the NCAA Westfield Regional. Freshman sensation Chul-Ak-Sorn turned in a record-breaking season for Iowa State. She earned All-American honors from GolfWeek and the WGCA, while also being named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and the WGCA National Freshman of the Year.
In his first season in Ames, Riggs helped the Cyclones to another trip to the NCAA Regionals in 2021-22. Following up a fourth place finish at the Big 12 Championship, the Cyclones finished ninth at the NCAA Stanford Regional. Taglao Jeeravivitaporn and Ruby Chou made history for the Cyclones at the NCAA Regional, becoming the first two players in school history to earn individual bids to the NCAA National Championships. Jeeravivitaporn finished in a tie for 17th, becoming the second player in school history to finish the event in the top 20 with a 293 over four rounds.
Prior to coming to Iowa State, Riggs was the head women's golf coach and the assistant men's golf coach at Cleveland State for two years. Riggs managed all aspects of the Viking women’s golf program since 2019, including recruiting, travel and scheduling. His 2019-20 Viking squad set the school record for lowest team scoring average and broke the single-round scoring mark of 290 at the 2019 Elon Invitational.
Prior to his time at Cleveland State, Riggs was the head men’s and women’s golf coach at the University of Cumberlands (2016-19), an NAIA school in Kentucky.
Under Riggs’ leadership, the Patriots won a combined five Mid-South Conference titles and appeared in three NAIA women’s national tournaments.
In 2019, the UC women’s team finished fifth at the NAIA national championship with four players earning NAIA All-America honors. His 2018 women’s team won the conference tournament by 28 shots and finished eighth at the NAIA national meet. During his three years at the helm of the women’s program, Riggs had seven NAIA All-Americans. On the men’s side, Riggs won two conference crowns (2017 and 2018) and mentored a pair of NAIA All-Americans.
Prior to being named the head coach at the University of the Cumberlands, Riggs was a graduate assistant at his alma mater Eastern Kentucky for one season. Riggs was a four-year letterwinner at Eastern Kentucky and earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in 2015, while also serving as team captain in 2014 and 2015.
He earned both his bachelor’s degree (2015) and master's degree (2017) in sport management from Eastern Kentucky.
