AMES, Iowa - Senior's Michelle Junod and Robyn Riedler took home most valuable player honors and the Cy Pride Award honors at the 2000 Iowa State Softball banquet. Junod, a native of Ankeny, Iowa batted .294 this season with 16 runs, 40 hits, three doubles, one triple, one home run and 11 RBI. Riedler, a native of Vancouver, Wash., led the team in RBI (18) and had 10 stolen bases this season. She also received the Golden Glove award.
Senior Tiffany Cornine earned the arsenal award, given to the best player off the bench. Cornine appeared in 36 games as either a pinch runner or a pinch hitter.
Lisa Frank and Cinnamon Gooding earned best offensive player honors. Frank a senior from Tucson, Ariz., batted .298 this season, with 48 hits, 23 runs and nine RBI. Frank was a perfect 18-of-18 on the base path which ranks her first on ISU's single-season stolen base chart. Gooding a senior from Phoenix, Ariz., posted a .433 batting average knocking out 29 hits, four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. The second-team All-Big 12 selection had a .582 slugging percentage and a .500 on base percentage.
The Golden Glove award went to Jessica Polo and Riedler. Polo a senior from Rancho Cordova, Calif., led the team in doubles (10) and triples (4) while posting a .419 slugging percentage.
Freshman Adi Blackmon was named most improved player. The native of Eldridge, Iowa, had 17 stolen bases this season which ranks her second on ISU's single-season stolen base list. The outfielder had a perfect fielding percentage with 32 putouts and one assist.
The Newcomer of the Year award went to sophomore Amberly Lessenger. The junior college transfer batted .314 this season with 22 hits, seven runs and five RBI.
