AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 25 Texas, Saturday night in Hilton Coliseum. Brittany Dalager led the Cyclones tallying nine kills and nine digs on the night. The loss moves ISU to 3-4 overall and to 0-2 in Big 12 action. Texas improves to 7-1 on the season and to 2-0 in conference play.
Iowa State kept it close in the opening set vs. the nationally ranked Longhorns. Dalager drilled three kills and dug five balls as ISU battled to keep the game in control. Texas' Katia Lara would prove to be to much for ISU in game one as she compiled six kills to help UT claim the opening stanza, 30-24. Lara finished the contest with a match-high 14 kills to go along with her six digs.
Texas jumped out to a big lead in game two and never looked back, claiming a 2-0 match lead with a 30-16 game two victory. Dalager and Mandi Harms combined for six kills in the set, but were unable to overcome a combined seven kill performance from UT's Mira Topic and Kathryn Wilson.
In game three the Longhorns once again took an early lead, but ISU would fight back and cut into UT's lead. Lara once again was the Cyclone nemesis as she collect six kills and ended further Cyclone comeback.
"I though we came out and competed well in the first game," ISU head coach Linda Crum said. "We kind of fell asleep in game two and part of game three, which you just can't do against a quality opponent like Texas. The team finished strong, but we have to play the same way we started and ended the match today, all the time if we want to be competitive in this conference."
Iowa State continues Big 12 action on Wednesday at No. 1 Nebraska. First serve will be at 7 p.m. in the Nebraska Coliseum.
