LINCOLN, Neb. - The Iowa State volleyball team fell at No. 1 Nebraska, 0-3, Wednesday night in the Nebraska Coliseum. Mandi Harms led ISU offensively with nine kills and a season-high eight digs. The loss moves Iowa State to 3-5 overall and to 0-3 in Big 12 action. Nebraska improves to 9-1 overall and to 2-0 in league play.
The Cyclones kept the first set close vs. the top ranked Huskers, but came up short falling, 21-30. Renae Pruess led ISU offensively with three kills, while Mandi Harms and Steph Suntken chip in two kills apiece. NU All-American Nancy Metcalf overpowered ISU, drilling seven kills to led the Huskers to a 1-0 match lead.
Nebraska kept the pressure on, jumping out a 11-4 led. Harms, who added three more kills in set two, helped cut into NU's lead, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cyclone dropped game two, 30-14. Metcalf continued to have the hot hand for Nebraska, bring her match total to 13 kills with six in the game two.
In game three NU was unable to jump out to a quick as in game one, but slowly built an advantage throughout the set. Pruess, who finished the night with six kills and eight digs, brought ISU within 15-23, forcing Nebraska head coach John Cook to call a timeout. The Huskers responded, outscoring ISU 7-to-4 to secure the match with a 30-19 set three win.
Iowa State returns home to face No. 16 Texas A&M at 2 p.m., Sunday in Hilton Coliseum.
