OKLAHOMA CITY - The Iowa State softball team landed three players on the Big 12 Coaches' All-Big 12 team and had six players named to the academic all-Big 12 team.
Junior Erica Martinez and freshman Lindsey Herrin were named to the first team all-Big 12 team while Adi Blackmon garnered second team honors. Martinez is batting .383 and has collected 46 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 31 RBI. The Fort Madison, Iowa, native now owns 22 career home runs making her the Iowa State career home run leader. Martinez owns team highs in nine separate offensive categories, including being walked 19 times. Herrin finished the season with a Big 12 best .385 batting average in conference games. The Coalinga, Calif., native leads the team in home runs (11) and RBI (36), her totals rank her tied for fourth and fifth respectively among Big 12 players. She currently owns a .322 batting average and has collected 39 hits in 121 at bats. Herrin's 11 home runs makes her the Iowa State single season home run leader. Blackmon is batting .244 and has 31 hits and five stolen bases.
The Cyclones had four players named to the first team academic all-Big 12 team and two players named to the second team. Juniors Jen Bice and Adi Blackmon, seniors Laura Browning and Kristin Shipley garnered first team honors while senior Amberly Lessenger and junior Molly McNertney earned second team honors. To be eligible for first team academic all-Big 12 a player must have a 3.20-plus grade point average. To be eligible for second team academic all-Big 12 a player must have a 3.0-3.19 grade point average.
