Iowa State's Katie Ruby Named Big 12 Player of the Week

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State's Katie Ruby was voted the Big 12 Conference Softball Player of the Week, based on games played from April 7-13.
Ruby, a senior catcher from Humboldt, Iowa, hit a trio of three-run home runs and had nine RBI in ISU's sweep of Baylor over the weekend. Ruby brought the Cyclones from behind in both victories with her home runs. In Saturday's 8-7 Cyclone win, Ruby's three-run blast, in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, sent the game into extra innings. On Sunday, Ruby's first home run tied the game at 4-4. Then again in the bottom of the seventh, with ISU down 6-4, the senior hit her third home run of the weekend to propel the Cyclones to a 7-6 victory. Ruby's season batting average is .248 with 26 hits, eight runs and 16 RBI.
