AMES, Iowa - Iowa State utilized its perimeter game, hitting 11 3-pointers en route to an 89-48 win over Northwest Missouri State in the Cyclones final exhibition game of the preseason Sunday afternoon.
ISU, which got much of its offense from a double-post lineup in its first exhibition game, had three different players drain at least three from outside against NWMSU. Sophomore Megan Ronhovde and senior Mary Fox had four 3-pointers each, while senior Anne O'Neil drained 3-of-4 from behind the arc.
"I was most pleased with the fact that not one kid took more than eight shots, so we got a lot of people involved," Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly said.
Both teams came out with their offensive guns blazing, hitting a combined nine 3-pointers over the first eight minutes of play. Iowa State knocked down 8-of-16 treys in the first half, while Northwest Missouri State hit 5-of-19 from behind the arc, including three in the first six minutes.
The flurry of 3-pointers kept the score close with ISU owning an 18-13 lead with 13:51 on the clock. The Bearcat offense went cold, going scoreless for nearly six minutes. The Cyclones took advantage of their stingy defense, sinking four consecutive treys and a Lisa Kriener layup before allowing another NWMSU basket.
Iowa State took a 46-27 lead into the locker room and went on a 16-2 run to start the second half and go up 65-29 with 14:27 left in the game. ISU cleared the bench, which was led by Lisa Bildeaux's nine points and five rebounds in 11 minutes of action.
"Lisa Bildeaux was obviously the crowd favorite, and she really made some big plays like we know she is capable of making," Fennelly said. "Mary Fox showed today how she is one of our best shooters. It seems as though shooting is contagious for this team."
Fox led all scorers with 16 points. Ronhovde had 12 points for ISU, while O'Neil and Robinette had 11 and 10 points, respectively. NWMSU's Laura Friederich had 12 points, the only Bearcat to score in double digits.
Iowa State owned the boards with a 54-39 advantage and shot 45.1 percent from the floor. Northwest Missouri State shot just 26.4 percent for the game, but made nine 3-pointers.
The Cyclones open regular-season action with two consecutive games on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22. ISU plays host to Cleveland State at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and faces Northern Colorado Monday night at 7 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
