OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. ? Seven Cyclones earned all-Big 12 Conference honors, the Big 12 Conference announced today at the Big 12 Softball Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Iowa State senior infielder Julia Lindsey earned first-team with a .317 batting average as well as in hits (40), runs (15), doubles (6) and at bats (126). Lindsey ranks third on the squad with 10 RBI. The Castle Rock, Wash., native has 160 career hits, which is fourth on ISU's all-time list. She ranks 12th in the Big 12 with a .317 batting average and ranks fifth in Big 12 games only with a .352 batting average.
Iowa State placed six Cyclones on the academic all-Big 12 team. Juniors Heather McLatchie (Mediapolis, Iowa) and Kim Rodgers (Ames, Iowa) and sophomores Cary Akins (Grand Terrance, Calif.) and Kristen Karanzias (Yorba Linda, Calif.) were named to the academic all-Big 12 first team, while senior Kelly Wardein (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Misty Kimura (Fresno, Calif.) were placed on the second team. It is Wardein's second consecutive year on the second team.
To qualify for the academic first team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 GPA or better, while the second team consists of those who have at least a 3.00 GPA.
