Katie Reichling Named Team MVP at Annual Softball Post-Season Banquet

AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State softball team held its annual banquet over the weekend at the Jacobson Athletic Building, marking the conclusion of the 2005 season. Head Coach Ruth Crowe handed out five team awards, including the Most Valuable Player award to sophomore Katie Reichling. Senior Diana Reuter was named the team's Most Improved Player, following the completion of her playing career at ISU.

Sophomore Ashley Killeen earned the team's Defensive Player of the Year award for her stellar play behind the plate while Reichling earned the team's Offensive Player of the Year award. The senior class of Misty Kimura, Kim Rodgers, Reuter and Amber Wood received the CyPride award. The CyPride award goes to the player who possesses “selfless dedication to the greater good of the team.” This is the second time Wood has garnered the CyPride award, also receiving the honor last season.

Reichling, from Johnston, Iowa, led the team in hits (39), doubles (10) and batting average (.325). As a pitcher, she recorded a team-best 2.85 ERA en route to a 7-10 record.

Killeen, a native of Papillion, Neb., was the only Cyclone to start and play in all 50 games for ISU this season. She threw out a career-high 25 base runners this season, including a league-high 12 in Big 12 Conference play.
