EVANSTON, Ill. - The Iowa State tennis team finished its second day of competition at the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill., Saturday. Senior Jill Palen battled her way through the consolation bracket by picking up two victories. Palen first defeated Illinois-Chicago's Lubica Nadasska in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3). She then defeated Michigan State's Sarah Andrews in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
Freshman Alyssa Palen notched a victory against Bowling Green's Andrea Volle in straight sets (6-0, 6-2). Senior Danielle Uscinski picked up a win as she defeated Wisconsin's Kim Roberts in three sets (6-4, 5-7, 6-0). Juniors Chrissy Derouin and Caitlin Loprinzi and sophomore Kara Hickey also competed in singles cosolation action. Junior Caitlin Loprinzi competed in singels quarterfinal action and was defeated by Indiana State's Maria Caujolle in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
In doubles action the Illinois native Derouin, teamed up with freshman Alyssa Palen in quarterfinals action and was defeated by Northwestern's duo of Nazlie Ghazal and Samantha Murray. Also competing in doubles quarterfinal action were Eve Soriano and Danielle Uscinski. The duo of Jill Palen and Hickey competed against Western Michigan's Noriko Saruta and Priyanka Parekh and fell in a closely-contested match (8-5).
Iowa State will resume tennis action tomorrow at 9 a.m. The tournament results will be posted at the conclusion of the meet.
