MANHATTAN, Kan. - Iowa State was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line in the final 1:21 as the Cyclones knocked off Kansas State 71-66 at Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday. ISU junior Lyndsey Medders, playing for her first time in four games coming off a sprained ankle, scored a game-high 26 points and dished out seven assists. The win was the first for a Cyclone team in Manhattan since an 86-72 win on Feb. 2, 2002.
Iowa State (14-8, 5-6 Big 12) came out in the second half firing on all cylinders, using a 20-4 run to take a 45-37 lead with 16:01 left. Medders and junior Megan Ronhovde scored 15 of ISU's points during that stretch as the Cyclones were able to hold off a late Wildcat charge. The Iowa State defense held Kansas State (17-6, 7-5 Big 12) to just 34 percent shooting for the game.
"The first four minutes of second half was as good on offense as this program has ever played," ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. "There are not many teams that lose at home and can come back and get a split on the road. Our younger kids are starting to have more confidence, and we just did a phenomenal job at the free-throw line down the stretch."
Iowa State won its second-consecutive game after trailing at the half, The team was previously 0-7 when it trailed at intermission this season.
After the Cyclones' torrid shooting in the first four minutes of the second half, they made just three field goals in the following 11 minutes as the Wildcats took a 54-53 lead on a jumper by Danielle Zanotti with 4:16 left to play. Iowa State finished the game 14-of-16 from the charity stripe and made their free throws count down the stretch.

After falling down by as many as 12 early on in the first half, scoring only one field goal in a seven minute span, Iowa State got baskets from Brittany Wilkins and Lyndsey Medders inside a minute to pull within eight, 33-25 at halftime.
Medders, Iowa State's leading scorer and the nation's leader in assists per game (8.4), led ISU with nine first half points on 4-of-8 shooting. She saw her first action since an ankle injury she suffered the last time ISU and KSU hooked up on Jan. 29.
"Lyndsey changes the game for us as she can create things off the dribble. The rest of the kids feed off that," Fennelly said. "You could tell she was tired and we tried to use media timeouts to give her extra rest. For her to come out and play 34 minutes was just huge for us."
ISU turned the ball over 10 times in the opening half, leading to nine Wildcat points. KSU was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line, while the Cyclones did not have a first-half attempt.
Iowa State will take on Texas Tech Tuesday in Hilton Coliseum at 7 p.m. The game will be televised by Mediacom Connections throughout Iowa.
