AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's basketball team used a 28-8 second-half run to defeat Missouri, 66-60, in Hilton Coliseum Wednesday night.
The Cyclones (13-8, 4-6 Big 12) snapped a four-game losing streak thanks to outstanding performances by two true freshmen. Guard Heather Ezell recorded her first career double-double, scoring 14 points and dishing 13 assists. Her assist total is the highest ever for a freshman in ISU history, and ties for sixth all-time. Forward Nicky Wieben came off the bench to pour in 18 points and grab nine rebounds.
"This is a big win for our team," said ISU head coach Bill Fennelly. "It stops the bleeding after losing four in a row. The effort was there all along, and we finally got rewarded tonight against a good Missouri team."
Missouri (16-6, 6-4) extended an eight-point halftime advantage to 41-27 early in the second stanza before Iowa State came alive. The Cyclones were able to take advantage of poor Missouri field-goal shooting, scoring several baskets in transition.
Megan Ronhovde, who had converted only 29 percent of her free throws on the season, sank two from the stripe to knot the game at 49-49 with 6:22 to play. Amanda Nisleit buried a three-pointer from the wing to give ISU its first lead of the game with just under six minutes remaining.
"Megan really embraced her role as a leader with Lyndsey [Medders] hurt," Fennelly said. "We asked her to play out of her normal position on several occasions, and she defended [Missouri guard LaToya] Bond very well."

LaToya Bond, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, and Christelle N'Garsanet scored 20 of Missouri's first 27 points before the ISU defense stiffened. Missouri made 10 of its first 20 shots from the field before finishing the half 5-of-16.
Wieben and Wilkins revived Iowa State's post presence, combining for 17 points and eight rebounds in the first half.
ISU was without the services of junior point guard Lyndsey Medders for the third-straight game due to an ankle injury sustained against Kansas State.
The Cyclones will hit the road again, playing at Kansas State on Saturday. The Wildcats took a 73-64 decision in Ames on Jan. 29. Tip-off in Manhattan is scheduled for 2 p.m.
