Cyclones Finish Eighth At Big 12 Championship

LINCOLN, Neb. - Iowa State's Jessica Shin posted the highest individual finish for a Cyclone in the 10 years of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship, tying for ninth with a three-day total of 229 (75-70-84) en route to all-tournament honors at the Country Club of Lincoln in Lincoln, Neb. A sophomore from Mankato, Minn., Shin's 229 total is the lowest ever score by a Cyclone individual at the Big 12 Championship and the first top-10 finish by a Cyclone in the 10 years of the tournament.
Strong winds made scoring difficult today, as only one player in the field shot par or better. Iowa State carded a 327 for a three-day total of 937 to place eighth in the tournament, tying the second-best finish by a Cyclone team in the 10-year history of the Big 12 Championship. Texas A&M took home the team title with an 899 total.
Sophomore Karly Pinder posted the lowest round for ISU on the day with a 5-over par 77. Pinder tied for 16th (77-78-77) with a three-day tally of 232. Junior Christi Athas tied for 26th at 235 (77-75-83). Texas A&M's Ashley Knoll won the medalist race with a 215 tally (69-71-75), six strokes ahead of second-place Stephanie Wavro (221) of Missouri.
The tournament wraps up the 2005-06 season for the Cyclones. ISU returns all but one player for next year.
