Cyclonitas Lead The MountainView Collegiate After Round One

TUCSON, ARIZ.- Iowa State took control early and never let their foot off the gas in the first round of the MountainView Collegiate. The Cyclonitas shot 15-under in the first round, leading by nine strokes. This was the best 18 holes for the Cyclonitas all year, and with two rounds to go yet, the Cyclones aim to do the same again.Â
Alexandra Vidal led the Cyclones and also had her best career round of eight-under. She stands in first place alone after a team high and career high of 10 birdies. Vidal will look to keep the lead with hopes of her first career win as a sophomore. Nichakorn Pinprayoon sits in a tie for second after an impressive five-under round one. Pinprayoon snagged six birdies on her day but carried out the only eagle of the day for the team.
Pammy Chookaew shot a clean one-under round with 15 pars on her card, putting her in a tie for ninth place. Chookaew had one of the best course management rounds of the tournament so far. Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn matched Chookaew on the cards with another one-under round, but Chul-Ak-Sorn snagged four birdies in her round. Chul-Ak-Sorn also sits in a tie for ninth, making her the fourth Cyclone in the top 10 after round one.Â
Isabella Yan rounded out the Cyclones as a team, placing in a tie for 19th after an even round. Yan grabbed four birdies in her first round, with three of them coming on the front nine. Keeley Marx played for the Cyclones as an individual in this tournament, as Marx finished her first round in a. tie for 81st after shooting a seven-over round. Marx snagged a couple birdies in her round as well.Â
