AMES, Iowa - Iowa State senior Brittany Wilkins signed a free agent contract with the Sacramento Monarchs of the WNBA. The Monarchs are the defending champion of the league.
Wilkins was a 2006 all-Big 12 honorable mention selection and was named to the 2006 Big 12 all-tournament team following a 28 point, nine rebound effort against Oklahoma in the quarterfinals. The native of Arlington, Neb., was named to the 2006 Big 12 all-improved team by the Dallas Morning News and Kansas City Star.
Wilkins, who averaged 16.1 points and 8.9 rebounds this year, scored a career-high 30 points in the Cyclones win over Wisconsin-Green Bay in the first round of the WNIT. The 6-3 forward logged 14 career double-doubles, including 11 this season and led the Cyclones shooting 51.4 percent from the floor this season and finished second on the team at 80.9 percent from the free throw line.
Wilkins is the eighth Iowa State player to be drafted or sign a free agent deal with a WNBA franchise. Former ISU standout Anne O'Neil was selected by the Monarchs last year.
