The Cyclones will conclude their regular season Big 12 schedule with a pair of games against Kansas in Lawrence. ISU is coming off its longest break since the pre-Big 12 portion of the schedule after dropping two closely contested games to nationally-ranked Baylor in Waco. The Cyclones and Jayhawks will face off on Saturday and Sunday.
Weekend Schedule Saturday Iowa State at Kansas, 2 p.m. Sunday Iowa State at Kansas, 1 p.m.
Gametracker: Gametracker will be available for both games at Cyclones.com.
Quickly: A sweep by Iowa State would give the Cyclones the seventh seed and the Jayhawks the eighth in the Big 12 Championship ... If KU earns a split they will take the seventh seed ... KU has won three straight against ISU. Prior to that three game streak, the Cyclones had won three of four against the Jayhawks ... Iowa State is just one win shy of 24, which would mark the most wins since 1989 when the Cyclones won 32 games under Deb Kuhn ... Alyssa Ransom will tie the ISU career leader with her next complete game ... The junior has 59 complete games and will tie Suzanne Wedemeier, who suited up for Iowa State from 1980-82 ... Ashley Killeen is hitting .341 and looking to post the highest average since 2002 when Erica Martinez hit .383 ... Jessica Quade is hitting a career-best .280 this season ... Kristy Olsen is hitting .500 (6-for-12) in the last five games but Katie Reichling leads the way with seven RBI during the stretch, three of which scored Olsen ... Reichling is just two walks shy of tying her total from last year, which ranks second all-time at ISU ... 17 of Reichling's 42 hits have been for extra bases ... She leads the team in extra base hits.
Scouting the Jayhawks: The Jayhawks sit just ahead of ISU in the standings with a 6-10 Big 12 record and are coming off a win over Wichita State on Wednesday. KU is 2-3 in its last five games, including a sweep at the hands of Oklahoma last weekend.
Serena Settlemier, who hit a walk-off homer against Wichita State, ranks in the top-10 in the nation with a .832 slugging percentage. Settlemier leads the Jayhawks in nearly every offensive category, with a .342 batting average, 21 homers and 59 RBI.
Settlemier and Kassie Humphreys split time in the circle. Settlemier boasts a 15-6 record with a 1.27 ERA while Humphreys is 13-16 despite a solid 1.36 ERA.
2006 Record: 28-24, 6-10 Big 12 All-Time: Kansas leads 38-24 (KU leads 14-7 in Lawrence.) Last Meeting: 5/8/05, KU won 14-2 in Ames. Head Coach: Tracy Bunge (Kansas, `86) Record at Kansas: 310-269-1, 10th Season (402-336-1 career record, 13th Season) Assistant Coaches: Jen Sewell, Christi Musser
Best Ever: Ashley Killeen broke the single-season school record for runs batted in with her RBI single against Missouri. Killeen has 40 RBI this season and stands just eight RBI of tying the school record for RBI in a career (88).
Run Production: The Cyclones are averaging 3.25 runs per game in the conference play. Last year, Iowa State scored five or more runs in a conference game just once and averaged just 1.66 rpg. This year, the Cyclones have accomplished the feat five times.
Grand Theft: First-year head coach Stacy Gemeinhardt has taken an agressive approach to running the bases that hasn't been seen at Iowa State recently. The Cyclones have 34 stolen bases this season, well over the 21 that ISU stole last year and the most since 2003 when they swiped 46 bases.
Goooood-Eye 1-7: Katie Reichling is climbing the all-time walk chart at ISU. The junior has 49 career base on balls and moved into the top five all-time at ISU with her last walk. Reichling also has two of the top-five single-season walk totals.
