CC Men to Face Top 25 Teams

The Iowa State men's cross country team will be up for a big challenge as they prepare to compete against top ranked teams at the Roy Griak Invitational this Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn.

Running in the top spots for the Cyclones will be Kiel Uhl, Guor Majak and David Rotich. The three finished first, second and third, respectively, at the ISU Open two weeks ago and have continued to train hard since that meet, according to men's head coach Corey Ihmels.

“Kiel and Guor have been training well,” Ihmels said. “At this meet I expect Kiel to be able to pick up right where he left off last season and I think Guor will just follow right along. David is also training well and he always comes ready to race.”

Competition will be tough for the Cyclones as they compete in one of the largest cross country meets of the season. Ihmels said he would like to see each of his runners run to their ability and let the team scores settle themselves out.

“This will be a huge test for us,” Ihmels said. “At least ten of the teams competing this weekend have received votes or are currently ranked in the top 25. It will be a good chance for us to mix it up and it should be exciting for us.”

The Griak Invitational is set to begin with the men's race at 11:20 a.m. with the women's race to follow at 12:20 p.m. Recaps and results of both the men's and women's races can be found at the conclusion of the meet at www.cyclones.com.
