Cross country All-American Lisa Koll made an impressive debut as a Cyclone track and field athlete. The sophomore, competing in the 3,000-meter run, took a commanding lead over the competition early and ran away with the race. “Having success in cross country really helped my confidence coming into my first track and field meet,” said Koll. “It's a race where I felt like the level of competition was right where it needed to be for my first race. I came into the race wanting to run a 9:40, early on I got boxed in and it was hard to keep pace but I broke out and I was able to get back to my own pace.”
The Cyclone track and field team kicked off the second day of ISU Open competition winning the 60-meter hurdle title. Senior Rebecca Williams once again claimed the crown, running 8.54, just edging freshman teammate Jenna Caffrey by six hundredths of a second. Caffrey also competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing third overall with a time of 7.81.
After redshirting the 2006 indoor and outdoor seasons, Jenny Mockler returned in prime form. The senior brought home the Cyclones third title of the day. The
After a stellar performance in the 4x300-meter relay on Friday, Lashawn Wright came back on Saturday to take second-place in the 60-meter dash. The freshman shot out of the blocks, but Wright's effort of 7.80 fell just short of UNI's Meredith Kosmacek, who ran 7.72.
In a tight race, Sara Boisen notched a second-place finish in the women's 800-meter run. Boisen led the whole race until getting passed by UNI's Jamie Hutchinson 30 meters shy of the finish line. The senior's effort of 2:12.55 was half a second behind the first-place time.
Other top ten finishers for the Cyclones included senior high jumper Leigh Wagner, 400-meter runner Leia Jackson, 60-meter hurdler Megan Nielsen, and shot throwers Britta Christofferson and Amy Waggoner.
