AMES, Iowa - Iowa State swept the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors as Lyndsey Medders was named Player of the Week while Toccara Ross was selected Rookie of the Week by a media voting panel for games from Jan. 15-21. Medders earned her third career weekly award, second as player of the week. Ross received her first conference honor. Freshman Rachel Pierson earned Rookie of the Week honors for ISU on Dec. 11.
Medders led the Cyclones to a pair of wins last week over No. 22 Texas and at Kansas. She turned in 23 points, six assists and five rebounds in the win over the Longhorns. The senior point guard led all scorers, going 7-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the win. Medders was just as sharp from the field against KU, posting 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a 2-of-4 performance from long range. She also added four rebounds and five assists. The Los Angeles native averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game for the week, while shooting 60 percent from the field. She continues to lead the Big 12 and rank in the top five nationally in assists with 6.5 per game.
Ross averaged a double-double for Iowa State in the Cyclones' wins over No. 22 Texas and at Kansas last week. She averaged 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.3 percent (9-16) from the field and 86.7 percent (13-15) from the charity stripe. In the win over the Jayhawks, the Davenport, Iowa, native had 16 points, 15 boards and three assists in 27 minutes on the court. Ross was 6-of-7 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the stripe. In ISU's win over Texas, the junior forward had 15 points and eight rebounds in 28 minutes.
Iowa State remains on the road Wednesday when the Cyclones travel to Norman, Okla., to face the seventh-ranked Sooners at 7 p.m. Wednesday, before coming home to play host to Kansas State at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hilton Coliseum.
