AMES, Iowa - Maria Fernanda Macedo has signed a national letter of intent to play tennis for the Iowa State Cyclones beginning in the 2008-09 season, Iowa State tennis coach Michele Conlon announced.
“Maria is going to be an outstanding addition to our tennis program,” said Conlon. “We recruited her feeling she could make a difference here at Iowa State. She has a great deal of international experience, a good work ethic and a strong academic background.”
In July, Macedo was ranked as high as No. 1 nationally in Mexico and was the singles and doubles champion at the hard court nationals in 2007. Macedo's resume also includes international experience at the 2007 Coffee Bowl in Costa Rica. Currently Macedo plays No. 1 singles and doubles for her high school, ITESM Mexico City.
“Our assistant coach Armando felt from the beginning Maria would also blend in well with our positive team environment,” Conlon said.
