With the win, Iowa State improved to 10-2 on the season, while UT Martin dropped to 3-9. ISU has won its last 14 at home and its last 16 against nonconference opponents at Hilton Coliseum.

“I think we've embraced the idea of being a solid defensive team,” head coach Bill Fennelly said. “We were smart and rebounded a little better tonight. The fundamentals of defense and the fundamentals of offense can impact winning and losing. Overall our defensive effort in almost every game we've played this season has been very good.”
The Cyclones jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead following a trey by Lacey. After going up 11-3, UTM closed the gap to four points, 11-7. But Nisleit hit a three and hit a field goal in the paint to jumpstart a 10-0 ISU run to take a 21-7 advantage.
The Skyhawks got as close as nine points, 27-18, but Lacey hit one of the Cyclones' four treys in the opening 20 minutes to build a cushion. UT Martin had the last say in the half with a field goal to make the halftime margin 10 points, 30-20. After the Skyhawks answered with back-to-back field goals, Iowa State went on another 14-2 run, including a pair of threes by Kelsey Bolte and a trio of field goals by Anderson to increase the lead to 28, 56-28. The Cyclones held on for the final 24-point margin.
