ROCHESTER, Minn. - The Iowa State tennis team defeated UW-Green Bay, 7-0, in front of large crowd at the Rochester Athletic Club Saturday. The Cyclones (1-1) were victorious in all six singles matches, after sweeping the three doubles matches. The three ISU Rochester natives, Jill Palen, Alyssa Palen, and Caitlin Loprinzi were a combined 5-0 on the afternoon.
In singles action, senior Jill Palen defeated UW-Green Bay's Heather Harding, 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 2 singles slot, sophomore Kara Hickey defeated Jennifer Tan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Loprinzi matched up against UW-Green Bay's Megan Gregory and came away with the two set victory, 6-0, 6-2. Alyssa Palen, playing No. 4 singles for the Cyclones, defeated Aschley Jurgella, 6-1, 6-4. Junior Chrissy Derouin and senior Eve Soriano were also victorious in singles action as they defeated their opponents, 6-4, 7-5, and 6-1, 6-0 respectively.
In doubles action, the Cyclone duo of Soriano and Hickey continued their stellar play as they defeated the Phoenix pair of Harding and Grimando, 8-1. In the No. 2 doubles slot, Jill Palen and Loprinzi went on to defeat the pair of Tan and Jurgella, 8-5. Also picking up a victory in doubles play was Iowa State's pair of Derouin and Alyssa Palen, as they defeated their opponents, 8-0.
The Cyclones will return home to play host to the Creighton Bluejays Friday, Feb. 9, at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center. Competition will begin at 4 p.m.
