AMES, Iowa?Iowa State will play host to the ISU Classic this weekend at the Lied Recreation Athletic Facility, one of the largest indoor track and field collegiate meets in the country with over 80 teams and 1,700 athletes competing in the two-day event.
The competition will begin on Friday with the women's weight throw at 1:30 p.m. and the running events kick off at 2 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdles preliminaries. Saturday's competition will start at 9:25 a.m. with the women's 3,000-meter run. Field events will begin with the women's high jump at 11:30 a.m.
After taking a week off, the men's track and field team will be back in action at the ISU Classic. Senior Neil Hines will compete in the men's heptathlon for the first time this season. The Morse Bluff, Neb. native will attempt to provisionally qualify for the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with his performance in the two-day event.
Other top athletes to perform for Iowa State will Guor Majak in the 5,000-meter run and Elijah Braimah in the 400-meter dash. Freshman Jared Lewis will compete in the long jump. The men's team will also have a strong 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Lewis, Braimah, James Robinson and Jared Graham. The team goes into the competition looking to break the school record.
