Cyclones Set For Pair Of Doubleheaders

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team faces Sacramento State and Colorado State in a pair of mid-week doubleheaders this week in Sacramento, Calif. The Cyclones, who are on spring break, went 5-3 last week and will play nine games this week in Sacramento before returning to Ames.

Looking Back
The Cyclones went 5-3 last week, picking up a pair of wins over UMKC and single wins over Santa Clara, UC Riverside and Eastern Illinois ... Freshman Alex Johnson was outstanding last week, hitting .393 and blasting homers in three straight games ... Johnson finised the week 11-for-28, raising her season average to .333 ... another freshman, Amanda Bradberry, had a breakout week ... Bradberry, a Kearney, Mo. native, hit .385 on the week and slugged her first career homer ... Bradberry started the final two games of the week at second base ... Courtney Wray was named to the National Invitational Softball Tournament all-tournament team ... Wray recorded a hit in four of the five games in the tournament, including a four-hit performance against No. 23 California ... the Cyclones have won their past two games (UC Riverside and Eastern Illinois) and six of their last nine ... Alex Johnson and Olsen each are riding three-game hitting streaks ... Olsen is a perfect 10-for-10 on stolen bases ... the school record for stolen bases in a season is 18, set by Lisa Frank in 2000 ... Alyssa Ransom returned to the pitching circle after missing 12 games and tossed 9.1 innings with a 3.00 ERA on the week ... Jennifer Bigbee had a big two-run pinch hit single in the Cyclones' win over Eastern Illinois.

No player in Iowa State history has produced as many runs as Ashley Killeen, who broke the career record for RBI against UMKC on March 6 ... Killeen, a native of Papillion, Neb., has now driven in 92 RBI, surpassing Erica Martinez (2000-03), who drove in 88 in her illustrious career ... Killeen, who has 19 career homers, will now try to break Martinez's home run mark of 27.

Sacramento State will host Iowa State in its first home games of the season after opening with 17 straight road games ... the Hornets are paced by sophomore catcher/designated player Jamie Schloredt, who is hitting an impressive .511 (24-for-47) ... Schloredt also has three of Sacramento State's six home runs and a team-high 12 runs batted in ... no other Hornet is batting above .300 this season ... the pitching staff has posted a 5.54 ERA, led by Cassie Cervantes, who is 1-3 with a 3.92 earned run average ...
