LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.-The Iowa State men's 4x400-meter relay and shuttle hurdle relay both earned first-place finishes at the Walt Disney World Invitational at the Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday.
The 4x400 team consisted of Tony Stanfield, Jared Lewis, Elijah Braimah and Jared Graham, the same team that competed at the 2007 NCAA indoor championships. Their time of 3:08.23 is a regional qualifying mark.
“We beat Florida State and you always feel good about that,” men's head coach Steve Lynn said. “We have some confidence now after a really good race. The guys are really motivated. Tony (Stanfield) did a great job leading us off and put us right in the lead and then each guy after him was able to run and keep that lead.”
The shuttle hurdle relay team consisted of Sterling Frison, Neil Hines, Eric Parker and Scott Lynn finished with a time of 1:01.44.
Senior Kellen Burl competed in the 110-meter hurdles, posting a regional qualifying time of 14.29. Burl improved on his time of 14.48 from the preliminary races yesterday. His effort earned him sixth place overall.
“Overall this was a really good opener and we had guys post some great times this weekend,” Lynn said. “With the wind and the heat we were able to still do some good things so we're looking towards a great season.”
