Cyclones Face OSU in Big 12 Home Opener

AMES, Iowa - After taking both ends of a doubleheader against Northern Iowa in its home opener, Iowa State (19-24, 0-2 Big 12) will look to add to the streak when it plays host to Oklahoma State in its first Big 12 home series of the year. Admission to all ISU games at the Southwest Athletic Complex is free.

The Cowgirls, who are under the direction of first-year head coach Rich Wieligman, enter this weekend 21-19 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 ... Wieligman came to the Cowgirls after serving as an assistant coach at Texas A&M for four years ... OSU is 6-4 in its last 10 games, including a pair of losses to Kansas last weekend ... the Cowgirls beat Wichita State, 4-0, on Tuesday and had a pair of games against Tulsa and Arkansas cancelled ... senior catcher Courtney Totte, a career .283 hitter entering the season, is leading the team with a .422 batting average ... Totte also has 52 RBI on the season ... Totte's fellow senior Shanel Scott is having another solid season, hitting .388 with 35 stolen bases from the leadoff hitter position ... OSU's pitching staff is led by all-Big 12 hurler Jessica Hoppock and freshman Anna Whiddon ... Whiddon is 9-5 with a 2.34 ERA after tossing a three-hit shutout against Wichita State ... Hoppock is 10-10 with an ERA of 3.72.

The Cyclones look to continue their winning ways after taking two games from Northern Iowa Wednesday afternoon ... ISU defeated the Panthers 6-3 in the first game before taking game two 5-3 ... Katie Reichling hit a pair of doubles in the doubleheader, Amanda Bradberry had two triples and Jessica Quade blasted two homers ... Bradberry went 4-for-7 in the games ... Reichling drove in a team-high three runs in the doubleheader ... Alex Johnson became the school's freshman hits leader with her 46th hit of the season ... Kristy Olsen's string of 16 straight stolen bases came to an end against the Panthers ... Alyssa Ransom and Charissa Carlin each picked up a win ... Ransom also earned her sixth career save, breaking the school record.

Iowa State's stolen base numbers have improved in head coach Stacy-Gemeinhardt-Cesler's second year at the helm of the program ... through 41 games, ISU has already stole more bases, 54, than it did last season when they Cyclones swiped 35 bases in 51 games ... Kristy Olsen is 16-for-17 on steal attempts and is closing in on the single-season mark, currently held by Lisa Frank, who stole 18 bases in 2000 ... Ariel Coburn (8-for-8) has yet to be thrown out on a steal attempt.
