AMES, Iowa- Three senior standouts were named captains for the Iowa State men's track and field team on Tuesday by a vote of their teammates. The squad recognized Neil Hines, Jared Graham and Dan Taylor as its 2007 team captains.
Hines, a Morse Bluff, Neb. native, is an NCAA provisional qualifier in the decathlon this outdoor season, earning 7,314 points at the Texas Relays on April 5 to put himself in good position for the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on June 6. Hines is a two-time, first-team academic all-Big 12 honoree, majoring in industrial engineering.
Graham, a Neola, Iowa native, ran the third leg of the indoor school record-breaking 4x400 relay unit at the NCAA Qualifier in early March. That effort secured a bid to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. He is a part of Iowa State's regionally-qualified outdoor 4x400 relay team.
Representing the distance runners, Dan Taylor has been instrumental in the leadership of the young Cyclone distance unit. Also a member of the Iowa State cross country team, the Fort Dodge, Iowa native ran the fourth leg of the sixth-place distance medley relay team at the Big 12 Championships as a sophomore.
The three captains and their teammates will be competing on May 11, 12 and 13 at the Big 12 Championships in Lincoln, Neb.
