Cyclones Tune Up at Nebraska

AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State men's track and field team heads to Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday for the Nebraska Invitational to tune up on the Ed Weir Outdoor Track, where they will be running for the Big 12 Championships on May 11-13.

The Cyclones also hope to regionally qualify more athletes. Going into the meet, ISU is regionally-qualified in four events, the 4x400 relay, the 200-meter dash with Jared Lewis, the discus throw with Robbie Utterback and the decathlon with Neil Hines.

Qualifying hopefuls include senior Kellen Burl in the 110-meter hurdles, senior Jared Graham in the 400-meter dash and senior Tony Stanfield in the 200-meter dash. Graham and Stanfield, along with Jared Lewis and Elijah Braimah are part of the strong 4x400 relay squad. Graham is also running the 200-meter dash this weekend.

Iowa State is coming off of a sound performance at the Drake Relays last week, where they racked up two victories, in the high jump and the shuttle-hurdle relay. ISU also had several top-eight finishes.

Weather has been an adversary for the Cyclones so far this outdoor season, and it may be a problem for ISU again in Lincoln. Forecasts are calling for thunderstorms and strong winds.

Events for the Nebraska Invitational begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Zac Brouillette in the shot put. The meet is scheduled to wrap up at 4:30 p.m. with the 4x400 meter relay.
