Last Time They Met
The Cyclones earned their first Big 12 series sweep in over four years in defeating Kansas in a pair of Saturday games last weekend ... celebrating Senior Day, ISU's senior class didn't disappoint as Alyssa Ransom picked up both wins and the rest of the seniors combined for 13 hits and eight RBI in the wins ... the Cyclones took the first game, 8-0, behind a two-hit five inning shutout from Ransom ... seniors Ashley Killeen, Jessica Quade, Katie Reichling and freshman Alex Johnson each drove in two runs in the first game ... Ransom started the second game as well and picked up the win with freshman Charissa Carlin getting the save as ISU held off KU, 3-2 ... Killeen and fellow senior Kristen Karanzias each drove in a run and had two hits ... Alex Johnson drove in her 27th run of the year.
Scouting Kansas
The Jayhawks (32-23-1, 7-11 Big 12), the defending Big 12 Tournament champions, head into the Big 12 Championships riding a season-long five game losing streak, the last two of which came at the hands of Iowa State ... KU hits .236 as a team, with only Stevie Crisosto above .300 at .302 ... Amanda Jobe sits just behind Crisosto at .296 ... Elle Pottorf paces the Jayhawks with nine homers and 37 runs batted in while Crisosto has a team-high 13 stolen bases ... Kassie Humphreys is 18-14 in the pitcher's circle with a 2.34 ERA and 216 strikeouts in 185.1 innings of work ... Valerie George is 9-4 with a 2.13 ERA.
All-Time Series
Kansas holds a 41-26 edge in the all-time series ... ISU took a pair of games last weekend and has won two of three meetings on the season ... KU beat ISU earlier this season at the Great Western Downtown Plaza Classic in Tulsa, Okla., on March 2 ... this is the first time ISU and KU have met four times in one season since 1996.
ISU In The Big 12 Championships
Iowa State is 4-14 in the Big 12 Championships all-time ... the Cyclones and Jayhawks have never met in the championships ... the last ISU win in the tournament came in 2002 when the Cyclones defeated Missouri in the opening round ... the only Cyclone player to be named to the all-tournament team was Raven Coburg in 1996, the inaugural season of the Big 12.
Cyclone Tidbits
Alex Johnson became just the second player in school history to record 60 hits in a season, joining Jenny Condon (77, 1988) ... her 13 doubles is a freshman record as well ... Fallon Johnson is hitting .281 since April 1 ... prior to April 1, Johnson was hitting just .191 ... Alyssa Ransom has defeated each Big 12 opponent at least once since arriving at Iowa State four years ago ... the Cyclones scored 11 runs last weekend against Kansas after scoring just 14 in the first 16 games of the Big 12 season ... the 8-0 win in game one marked the first time ISU had run-ruled a Big 12 opponent since beating Texas A&M, 14-6, in Ames on April 15, 2006 ... the win also snapped Iowa State's season-long nine game losing streak ... Ransom needs one win to equal the career record of 46 held by Tammy Rueckert ... Charissa Carlin picked up her second career save in ISU's 3-2 win over the Jayhawks.
