AMES, Iowa ?
Iowa State senior pitcher Alyssa Ransom was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the games of April 30-May 6, the league office announced today.
Ransom is just the second Cyclone hurler in school history to earn Big 12 pitcher of the week accolades, joining teammate Amie Ford, who earned the honors in 2006.
The Round Rock, Texas native made the most of her final appearance at the Southwest Athletics Complex in Ames, leading ISU to a pair of victories over Kansas. Ransom allowed just two hits in five innings to pick up the 8-0 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader before tossing 4.1 innings and surrendering just two runs on five hits as ISU defeated the Jayhawks, 3-2, to sweep its first Big 12 series since 2003.
Ransom and the Cyclones will face Kansas again Thursday evening in the Big 12 Championships in Oklahoma City. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
