Boeve's Blog: Week 3

Iowa State senior volleyball player Erin Boeve will be writing a weekly blog this season to give Cyclone fans an insiders look at the happenings of the program, which last year advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. Boeve, an outside hitter from Steen, Minn., became the first Cyclone to earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors a year ago. She also was the first ISU volleyballer to be named first-team All-Big 12 and the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. A preseason All-Big 12 selection this year, Boeve is the school's record holder for career block assists and owns the top-two single seasons in school history as well.

Hello everyone! I can't believe it is that time again to write in the weekly blog for the web page. The weeks are just flying by.

This week was the first week of classes; this means that summer is officially over for us. Now we have to manage our time wisely with classes and of course volleyball and all the traveling that is included with that. I would have to admit, I have gotten a lot better at this over the years!

We had a full week of practice, with the exception of our day off Tuesday, to prepare for our first match. It was a little different not having a mid-week match, but that already changes this upcoming week.

On Saturday night, August 25^th, we attended a picnic at Lauren Cummings' home in Ankeny. It was a chance for our team, coaching staff, and parents to get together and meet the freshmen and their parents. It was a great way to kick off the season!

Sunday was the day we had been waiting for. It was the day of our first match, which was against Middle Tennessee. We began the day at 1 p.m., with practice followed by a pre-game meal. The match was underway at 5 p.m., we ended up losing in four games, but learned a lot about our team that will help us prepare for future matches this season. It will be a quick turnaround for us as we only have one practice to prepare for our match on Tuesday against Creighton, but we are looking forward to it. The match starts at 6:30pm in Hilton.
