Hello again to all the Iowa State volleyball fans! It has been another awesome week for the Cyclones. We are now on a seven game winning streak and are 2-0 in Big 12 play! The ISU volleyball team has not been on this long of a winning streak since 1997! Plus, we have never gone 2-0 to start off the Big 12 schedule!
Our first win in the Big 12 came against Baylor on Wednesday night. It was an away match so we practiced in Hilton on Tuesday afternoon and took a charter flight out of Ames on Tuesday night. We arrived in Waco at about 8:30 p.m., only about a two hour flight. On Wednesday morning, we ate breakfast as a team and watched some film before we headed off to practice. Practice usually consists of some serving and passing, along with defending different rotations of our opponents. After practice was complete, we went back to the hotel where we ate our pre-game meal and had a little down time before it was time to go back to the gym. We swept the Bears in three games, cutting the last game pretty close but winning with a score of 31-29. It is always nice to get the first Big 12 win right away in the season. Right after we showered up, we drove to the airport to catch our flight back to Ames. When we got to the airport we found out that we had just missed Jessica Simpson fly in the night before. She landed right after we had left the airport. I bet she would have been excited to meet the Iowa State volleyball team. We arrived back in Ames at about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. I love charter flying and wish we could do it for every trip, but we only charter during the week so we don't miss so many classes.
On Thursday and Friday we had practice to prepare for our next match against No. 25 Texas A&M on Saturday. Saturday started off right with the ISU football team beating Iowa in a close game. We weren't able to go to the game because of film and practice, but we did see the last three minutes of the game on the television in the training room. We were pretty excited that the Cyclones came out with the win. Go State!
Now it was our turn to win a big match for Iowa State! The match started at 6:30 p.m. and we had a great crowd of over 1,200 fans. It is so exciting to play in front of that many people; I don't even know how to describe it! So next time, let's see if we can get some more fans into Hilton because we all know it can seat many more than that! With the help of the fan support, we won in a sweep. It was really nice to beat another ranked team this early in the season!
This week we are headed back to Austin to play Texas on Wednesday night and we are home again on Saturday night against Missouri. Hopefully we can keep this winning streak alive! Hope to see you there!
Go Cyclones!
