AMES, Iowa - Each week Cyclones.com will bring you inside the Iowa State softball program by asking at least five questions to each member of the team. This week's student-athlete is Amanda Bradberry, a sophomore infielder from Kearney, Mo. Bradberry finished fourth on the team last season with a .231 hitting percentage.
Cyclones.com: Talk about your recruitment to Iowa State and why you chose to become a Cyclone.
Bradberry: My recruiting trip here was awesome! I came up the weekend of the ISU/Iowa game in 2005. AJ (teammate Alex Johnson) and I were actually here the same weekend. I remember that as we were walking into the stadium the band passed by us and they were playing the fight song. I got chills. It was so cool and definitely not something I had ever been a part of before. At the game, we (the recruits) got to sit on the field in the south end zone and when ISU won we rushed the field with the rest of the student-athletes. I knew right then that Iowa State was where I wanted to be.
Cyclones.com: You are majoring in elementary education. When did you decide your major and why did you chose it?
Bradberry: I chose to major in elementary education because I have always known I wanted to work with kids. I had the opportunity to “cadet teach” in an elementary classroom when I was in high school and I loved working with the kids and seeing their improvements from the first day of school to the last day of school. I didn't officially become an elementary education major until this past fall.
Cyclones.com: What is your favorite thing about being a Cyclone softball player?
Bradberry: We are truly a family. It's like a home away from home.
Cyclones.com: What is your favorite softball memory?
Bradberry: My favorite softball memory at ISU is sweeping Kansas on Senior Day last year and the Eco-Challenge we always do in the fall.
Cyclones.com: What are your goals for the upcoming year? What are your feelings about the team this year and how will it be different than a year ago with so many newcomers?
Bradberry: I can't wait for this season to start! I'm so excited about what our team is going to do this year! We are a young team and because of that I think we're going to be aggressive. I think we'll definitely catch people's eyes! This team has so much heart. For those of us that are “returners,” we know how it last year felt so each of us will be doing our part to not let that happen again.
