AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State head softball coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler announced Tuesday the team's 2009 schedule, which will feature 17 games against NCAA Tournament qualifiers from a year ago.
“I am pleased with the way our schedule stacks up,” Gemeinhardt-Cesler said. “It will definitely help us in preparing for what is always a demanding Big 12 schedule. We are excited for the challenges that the schedule presents and look forward to getting started.”

The season opens the weekend of Feb. 7-8 with a trip to the Bradley Invitational where ISU will face tournament qualifiers Western Illinois and Wright State in addition to IUPUI and the host Braves.
After tournaments in Jacksonville, Fla. (Feb. 13-15) and Denton, Texas (Feb. 20-22), Iowa State will head to the loaded Mayfair Tournament (Feb. 27-March 1) in Long Beach, Calif. to play four games against NCAA teams.
ISU opens the tournament with BYU and will also face Fresno State, which was seeded No. 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament, in addition to two games against Long Beach State, which was a 14th-seed in the 2008 tournament. The Cyclones will also play Cal State-Northridge during the weekend.
The Cyclones close out pre-Big 12 play with a pair of doubleheaders at New Mexico, a five-game tournament in San Diego, Calif., and a single game at Missouri State.
The Big 12 season opens March 21 against Oklahoma before the Cyclones open their home slate with a March 25 matchup against intrastate rival Northern Iowa at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
Iowa State will play a 14-game home slate, headlined by games against Big 12 foes Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Kansas.
The Cyclones will travel to Iowa for the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series matchup on April 7 at the Bob Pearl Softball Field. First pitch for the rivalry game is set for 5 p.m.
The 2009 Big 12 Championships will be held in Oklahoma City for the 13th consecutive year from May 8-10.
NCAA Tournament play will begin May 15 at selected sites.
