In order to give Cyclone fans an inside look at the Iowa State women's basketball team throughtout the season, head coach Bill Fennelly and members of the ISU team will be posting a weekly blog at cyclones.com on each Tuesday throughout the school year.
Fans will have a chance to hear directly from Coach Fennelly throughout the season about how practice is going, how the team is doing during the season, and what he sees as the staples of the ISU women's basketball program. Players will talk to you each week about their perspective of school life, practices, games, and the daily hurdles of being a Division I student-athlete.
Senior Amanda Nisleit writes to you this week from her home in Woodbury, Minn., where she is spending Christmas with her family. She and her teammates headed in 15 different directions following their win over Minnesota. Check back next week to hear from another Cyclone as they return from Christmas and get back into basketball mode.
Hi Cyclone Fans!
First off, thank you to all the fans that came to the game on Sunday, especially in the cold and during the busy holiday season. Also thank you to the fans who listened on the radio and watched on TV. It was a huge game for our team and especially for me! It was great to beat Minnesota! I am so proud of our team for finishing the semester strong. I hope the win will help my teammates and coaches enjoy the holidays that much more.

My sisters, Carly and Sarah are helping me write this blog, and they say “hi” to all the Cyclone fans! It is great to be at home spending time with my family and close friends. My sisters and I just finished making a birthday cake for Jesus and lots of Christmas cookies. It means so much to me to be able to have time off for Christmas. I am very thankful for my family and for the time I have with them over these next few days. Our team got to go home after the Minnesota game on Sunday and we will be back in Ames practicing hard on Friday Dec. 26, to prepare for our Cyclone tournament. I hope many of you can be there to cheer us on. We need your continued support as we try to keep improving and preparing for the Big 12.
This Christmas I asked Santa for warm “teaching” clothes (since I will be student teaching soon and I am spending more time in the classroom for my classes at ISU), some movies, and lots of wins for our team this season! Hopefully, Santa will come through for me! I don't have any crazy plans over break. I am planning on staying warm, spending as much time with my family and my dog as I can, and eating lots of yummy food and Christmas treats.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and happy holidays! I hope we can all take a moment on Christmas to remember the best gift we have all received on that special day. Safe travels to all and Happy New Year!
