AMES, Iowa- Iowa State freshman guard Kelsey Bolte was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week for the third time since the start of Big 12 Conference action, the league office announced Monday. The award is chosen by a media voting panel and is based on games played Feb. 12-17.
Bolte averaged 10 points and 6.5 rebounds in a loss to No. 17 Kansas State and a win at No. 15 Oklahoma State last week. Against the Wildcats, the freshman guard went 4-of-8 from the field and finished with eight points, five rebounds and two assists.
In the win over the Cowgirls, Bolte was 4-of-7 from the floor, including hitting a pair of treys and a pair of free throws for 12 points. The Ida Grove, Iowa, native also led the Cyclones with eight rebounds, and passed out one assist.
Bolte was named Rookie of the Week the first two weeks of conference play after posting 20 or more points in each of her first four games. She has been in double figures in eight of the Cyclones' 11 Big 12 Conference contests.
The award for Bolte marks just the second time Iowa State has had a newcomer win Rookie of the Week honors three or more times in their initial ISU campaign. Megan Taylor was name Big 12 Rookie of the Week five times in 1998.
Baylor's Jessica Morrow was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week. She averaged 19.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in Baylor's two games last week, a road loss at Texas and a home victory over 10th-ranked Oklahoma. The 6-0 junior guard led all scorers against the Longhorns with a 19-point performance while hauling down seven rebounds and registering a steal. Against Oklahoma, Morrow poured in 20 points and added seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals.
