AMES, Iowa- The Cyclone tennis team will welcome Texas Tech to town Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. dual at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center. Iowa State comes into the match with a 3-4 record (0-2 in the Big 12) and is coming off a 6-1 loss to the No. 5 Baylor Bears. The Lady Raiders enter the match with a mark of 7-4. The match with Iowa State will be their second in the Big 12 as they face the 58th-rated Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday.
The Baylor Bears proved to be too much for Iowa State. The Cyclones were able to come away with two victories against the Bears. Freshman Reka Kelemen defeated Natalie Holmes, 7-5, 6-2. Kelemen holds a 5-1 dual record and an 11-4 overall mark. Kelemen and fellow freshman Liza Wischer came away with the win at No. 3 doubles over Holmes and Jana Bielikova, 8-6.
Senior Caitlin Loprinzi was unable to continue her win streak, falling to 6-1 on the season. She was defeated by Bielikova after forcing a tiebreaker in the first set.
Texas Tech split two matches last weekend against the No. 31 Horned Frogs of TCU and the 62nd-ranked SMU Mustangs. The Lady Raiders were unable to win a match vs. TCU, losing 7-0. Against SMU, Texas Tech junior Samantha van der Drift defeated 73rd-rated singles player Natalie Bubien, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to pace the Lady Raiders to victory.
Texas Tech defeated the Cyclones last season, 6-1.
There will be a drawing for Iowa State tennis t-shirts in between singles and doubles matches.
