AMES, Iowa - Iowa State will open its Big 12 home slate by playing host to Texas on Saturday at 1 p.m. The weekend was originally scheduled for a game Saturday and Sunday, but rain forecasted for Sunday switched it to a doubleheader. Stay tuned to Cyclones.com for possible time changes.

Cyclone Notebook
- ISU (23-12, 1-1 Big 12) opens home Big 12 play this weekend with two games against Texas.
- Third-year Iowa State head coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler is taking a leave of absence as she is on bed rest expecting twins. Assistant coaches Gary Hines and Crystal Turner will serve as acting head coaches and former Cyclone Alyssa Ransom joins the squad as an interim assistant coach.
- Iowa State is just five wins shy of its total from a year ago.
- The Cyclones have went 3-1 this week, sweeping a doubleheader from Western Illinois and splitting with Northern Iowa.
- In the four midweek games, Courtney Wray led the way with five hits and two homers. Jacquelyn Beatty has also been hot lately, hitting .357 in the last four.
- The Cyclones homered three times in the first game against Western Illinois. It marked the first time in 75 games that ISU has accomplished the feat.
- In the last five games, Kristy Olsen has hit .438 and is 4-for-4 on stolen bases. Olsen ranks third all-time at ISU with 33 stolen bases
- Sophomore Alex Johnson needs just nine hits to reach 100 for her career. Wray, another sophomore is just 11 hits shy of the century mark.
- The Cyclones will honor former teammate Fallon Johnson before Saturday's game. Johnson, who played at Iowa State from 2004-07, passed away from injuries suffered in a car accident in Ames on Nov. 29, 2007. Johnson will be remembered with a moment of silence prior to the game and her No. 18 will be painted in centerfield, where she roamed as a four-year starter. The Cyclones will also play without a centerfielder for the first pitch.
- Iowa State has 53 stolen bases on the season, which ranks as the fourth-best single-season in school history. Kelsey Kidwell has 14 steals on the season, just four shy of tying the record.
- Charissa Carlin pitched well this week after struggling of late. Carlin is 1-0 on the week with two saves. The sophomore from Springfield, Mo., now has four career saves, which leaves her tied for sixth all-time at ISU.
- Iowa State's leading hitter Ariel Coburn suffered a broken wrist in the loss to Creighton. Coburn, who is day-to-day, was hitting .400 with a team-best six homers.
Stat of the Week
Iowa State has already matched its home run total from a year ago. The Cyclones have hit 24 in 35 games this season after hitting 24 in 64 games a year ago. ISU's slugging percentage is up to .399 after finishing at .306 in 2007.
Scouting Texas (16-12-2, 2-1 Big 12)
- Texas dropped a 5-4 decision to Big 12 foe Texas Tech on Thursday evening in Lubbock. The Longhorns went to 2-1 in league play after sweeping Nebraska on opening weekend.
- Against Tech, shortstop Loryn Johnson finished 2-for-4 with three RBI for Texas, which out hit the Red Raiders, seven to five. Brittany Barnhill took the loss, lasting just three innings and giving up four runs.
- Tallie Thrasher leads UT at the plate with a .373 average while Johnson follows closely behind with a .354 average. Johnson has driven in a team-high 23 RBI while Desiree Williams has nine stolen bases on 10 attempts.
- In the circle, Texas boasts one of the Big 12's top pitchers in Meagan Denny. Denny is 12-4 with a 1.59 ERA and has thrown nearly 40 more innings than anyone else on the staff. The senior has 167 strikeouts and is limiting opponents to just a .179 average. Barnhill has been the Longhorns' No. 2 pitcher and owns a 3-6 record and a 3.30 ERA.
- ISU and UT have played one common opponent this season in Wichita State. Both the Cyclones and Longhorns split with the Shockers.
- The Cyclones have beaten the Longhorns just once in 25 tries, with that win coming in 2005 in Austin.
Austin Connection
- Iowa State added three players from Austin, Texas this season to bring its total number of Texans to five. Freshmen Rachel Zabriskie and Carrie Monroe and junior college transfer Jacquelyn Beatty all hail from Texas. Senior Amie Ford (Katy, Texas) and freshman Sara Stinson (Mesquite, Texas) round out the Cyclones that hail from the Lone Star State.
