AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State sophomore Alison Lacey and freshman Kelsey Bolte earned Big 12 postseason honors, the conference office announced Friday. Lacey was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, while Bolte was named to the Big 12 All-Rookie Team.
"The Big 12 is the best conference in the nation, so for Aus (Alison Lacey) and Kelsey to get these awards is a great honor and well deserved," ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. "It is nice to see the coaches in the league recognize their efforts."
Lacey ranked 12th in scoring in the Big 12 this season with 14.5 points per game. She led the conference in three-point shooting, hitting 41 percent from long range. She also ranked second in three-pointers per game (2.6) and was sixth in assists (3.9).
The Canberra, Australia, native has hit a trey in every game this season and has hit three or more treys in 12 of the last 22 games. She has hit five or more on five occasions and has been in double figures 22 times this season. Lacey was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 11, after averaging 23 points, six rebounds, and five assists in Iowa State's home wins over Texas Tech and Missouri.
Bolte was named to the All-Rookie Team after being named Big 12 Rookie of the Week on three occasions, including the first two weeks of the Big 12 season. The Ida Grove, Iowa, native scored 20+ points in each of her first four conference games, a feat no other freshman has accomplished in Big 12 history.
The 6-1 guard averaged 10.1 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per contest this season, ranking fourth and fifth, respectively, among all Big 12 freshmen. She scored in double figures in 10 of the Cyclones' 16 Big 12 contests. Bolte had the best game of her young career in her first Big 12 game vs. No. 6 Oklahoma, scoring a game-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Iowa State will face Colorado in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at noon on Tuesday at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The Cyclones finished tied for seventh with Texas in the final Big 12 standings with a 7-9 league mark.
