Cyclone Notebook
- ISU (25-19, 2-6 Big 12) plays a midweek series against Nebraska (17-20, 1-7) this week. The Cyclones and Huskers will meet in Ames on Tuesday and Lincoln on Thursday.
- The Cyclones snapped a five-game Big 12 losing streak with a 4-1 win over Oklahoma State Sunday, earning a series split. The Cowgirls took a 9-1 run-rule win on Saturday.
- Against the Cowgirls, Rachel Zabriskie carried a no-hitter through 5.2 innings en route to her 12th win of the season. Amanda Bradberry homered to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning and ISU added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
- Three Cyclones are on the verge of reaching 100 career hits. Sophomore Courtney Wray needs just four hits while Kristy Olsen and Alex Johnson are eight and seven hits shy, respectively.
- Iowa State's leading hitter Ariel Coburn suffered a broken wrist in a loss to Creighton but returned to the lineup as a starter on Saturday. Coburn is hitting .379 on the season and is one hit shy of being eligible for the Big 12 rankings, where she would be tied for sixth.
- Amanda Bradberry has reached base safely in 11 of the last 12 games and is hitting .387 during that stretch. Bradberry has had a hit in 10 of the 12 games, drawing a walk in the game against Texas A&M in which she was hitless. The only game she didn't reach base was the first game against Drake.
- Bradberry and Olsen are tied for the team lead with a .350 average in Big 12 play. Jones, who has four RBI, is the only player with more than one RBI.
- Courtney Wray is hitting .400 (6-for-15) in her last five games. Wray is 11th in the Big 12 with a .361 average on the season.
- Kelsey Kidwell is sixth in the Big 12 with 14 stolen bases.
- Carrie Monroe has come into her own at the plate lately. The freshman is hitting just .195 on the season but is 7-for-19 (.368) in the last 10 games. Her .267 average in Big 12 play is fourth on the team.
- The Cyclones are tied for second in the Big 12 with nine triples on the season.
- ISU has turned a league-best 17 double plays on the season.
- ISU has four players with 20+ RBI for the first time since the inception of the Big 12 (1996).
Stat of the Week
Iowa State is hitting .299 (98-for-328) with runners in scoring position. Courtney Wray leads the team with a .441 (15-for-34) while Alex Johnson hits .439 (18-for-41).
Scouting Nebraska (17-20, 1-7 Big 12)
- Nebraska comes to Ames after notching its first Big 12 win of the season with a 5-0 win over Baylor on Sunday in Lincoln. The win snapped a four-game skid for the Huskers, whose worst finish in Big 12 play is 9-9.
- Against the Lady Bears, sophomore Alex Hupp picked up her first career Big 12 win with a three-hit complete-game shutout. Hupp fanned five Baylor hitters. Crystal Carwile finished 2-for-3 with a RBI while four other Huskers also drove in a run in the game.
- The Huskers rank sixth in the Big 12 in team batting (.270) and ninth in team pitching (3.02).
- On the season, leadoff hitter Darcy Rutherford leads Nebraska with a .367 batting average. Centerfielder Meghan Mullin is second on the team with a .343 average while leading the team with 16 stolen bases on 19 attempts. Crystal Carwile, who homered and doubled against ISU last season, leads the way with 23 RBI.
- In the circle, Hupp (9-7, 2.51 ERA) and Molly Hill (7-10, 2.62 ERA) split time in the circle. Hill, who was the 2007 Big 12 ERA leader, had knee surgery in January and has struggled to return to her form of a year ago.
- Nebraska leads the all-time series 66-18, including a 20-8 edge in Ames and a 28-4 lead in Lincoln.
