AMES, Iowa- Three members of the Iowa State tennis team were named to the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 Tennis Team on Tuesday. Iowa State seniors Caitlin Loprinzi and Chrissy Derouin and junior Kara Hickey were all named to the academic first team
Loprinzi, a biology major, and Derouin, a psychology major, carry grade-point averages of 4.0. There were only six nominees among 56 honored on both the men's and women's All-Big 12 teams who carried perfect GPA's. This is the third consecutive year that both Derouin and Loprinzi have been honored on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. This is the second time Hickey, a statistics major, has been named to the first team.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
