AMES, Iowa ? Future Iowa State softball players Heidi Kidwell and Emily Gilbert garnered all-state honors from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Kidwell and Gilbert will join five other newcomers when the Cyclones report for fall practice later this month.
Kidwell, a graduate of Solon High School, was named to the elite all-state team, which includes every class. Kidwell hit .612 for the season with eight doubles, five triples, 37 runs scored and 31 stolen bases. The outfielder was also named the Iowa City Press-Citizen position player of the year. Solon finished the season 26-17 and earned a runner-up finish in Class 2A
Gilbert, a Prairie City native, was a second-team all-state pick in Class 2A after hitting .481 and driving in 28 runs for PCM. Gilbert, a catcher, also had a slugging percentage of .547 and PCM finished 29-7.
