AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team takes its 13-2 record to the Mayfair Tournament in Long Beach, Calif. this weekend. The Cyclones will play two against Long Beach State and single contests against BYU, Cal State-Northridge and Fresno State.

Cyclone Notebook
? Iowa State has equalled the best start in school history after 15 games by opening with a 13-2 record. The Cyclones were also 13-2 in 1975 and 1985.
? The Cyclones are fifth in the league in hitting (.289) and second in pitching (1.01).
? ISU is second in the league in stolen bases (26) while leading the conference with four triples.
? Rachel Zabriskie leads the Big 12 with a 0.48 ERA this season. Her career ERA is down to 2.12.
? Zabriskie also leads the Big 12 in wins (seven) and shutouts (three).
? Zabriskie allowed just one unearned run in 17.1 innings of work last weekend. The Austin, Texas native struck out 18 and didn't walk a batter.
? For the season, Zabriskie is averaging 29 strikeouts per walk issued.
? Offensively, ISU is led by junior Alex Johnson. Johnson is eighth in the Big 12 hitting .395 and sits second in the league with five doubles.
? Johnson is third in the conference with 16 RBI this season and she is third all-time at ISU with 79 career RBI.
? Carleigh Berry is leading the conference with nine stolen bases.
? The Cyclones hit just .276 as a team last weekend but got strong play from Carrie Monroe (.455) and Jacquelyn Beatty (.417).
? Beatty hit two doubles and two homers and drove in a team-high seven runs. Her slugging percentage for the week was an eye-popping 1.083.
? Monroe, who hit just .187 as a freshman, is tied for 17th in the Big 12 with a .355 average this season. Her .487 on base percentage ranks sixth in the league.
? Alex Johnson's 13th career homer was probably her most important as it was the only run scored in ISU's 1-0 win over Wichita State.
? Charissa Carlin won her 25th career game. With three more wins she'll move into the top-10 all-time at ISU.
? Johnson needs just nine hits to move into Iowa State's career top-10. The school record for hits is 216 by Jenny Condon. Johnson is just 93 shy of tying that mark.
? Johnson is also closing in on the career doubles mark of 33 (Kris McMaster). The junior already has 28 doubles.
? Kelsey Kidwell will most likely be the next Cyclone to reach 100 career hits. Kidwell needs just 21, despite having only four her freshman year. Alex Johnson and Courtney Wray are currently over 100 career hits.
? Kelsey Kidwell needs just two RBI to match her total from her first two years.
? Sydni Jones has eight extra base hits this season and ranks sixth in the league with a .690 slugging percentage.
? The Cyclones are 9-0 when leading after four innings this season.
Scouting BYU
? Iowa State opens the weekend with BYU, which sits at 7-9 overall after five of its last six contests. Of the Cougars nine losses, four have come to nationally ranked foes. BYU has also lost to Big 12 teams Texas and Kansas.
? BYU is led at the plate by Andrea Ramirez, who hits .420 and is second on the team with 13 RBI. Catcher Jessica Purcell leads the team and the Mountain West Conference with 22 RBI.
? As a team, BYU hits .289 as a team and is 12-for-16 on stolen bases.
? In the pitcher's circle, Paige Aaffleck and Christie Zinanti split time. Aaffleck is 4-4 with a 2.12 ERA while Zinanti is 3-5 and boasts a 2.14 ERA. Aaffleck has notched 57 strikeouts this season and Zinanti has 51. Both pitchers have 29 walks.
Scouting Long Beach State
? Tournament host Long Beach State is 7-7 after going 3-2 last weekend at the San Diego tournament.
? The 49ers beat the Cyclones 6-0 last season to run their winning streak to six over ISU.
? Danielle Linke is hitting .356 to leads four players hitting .300 or better for the 49ers. Jennifer Griffin hits .326 and has a team-high nine runs batted in. Griffin also has a team-best three homers.
? The 49ers are just 3-for-8 on stolen bases this season.
? Taylor Petty is the top pitcher on the staff with a 3-0 record and a 0.68 ERA. Brooke Turner picked up the win a year ago against ISU and currently sits at 4-3 with a 2.66 ERA. Turner leads the team with 45 strikeouts.
Scouting Cal State-Northridge
? Cal State-Northridge is 4-6 this season with two of its four wins coming via the run rule.
? The Matadors hit just .242 as a team with Christina Saenz leading the way with a .455 average. Saenz has a team-best 10 RBI. Tracy Allen is second on the team with a .450 batting average while tying for the team-lead with four stolen bases.
? CSU-N has a pitching staff of five players but two of them see the majority of the time. Deborah Duran is 4.-3 with a 3.28 ERA while Claire Rietmann-Grout is still looking for her first win with an 0-3 record and a 6.35 ERA. Duran has a team-high 21 strikeouts.
Scouting Fresno State
? At No. 15 in the country, Fresno State will be the first ranked opponent Iowa State will face this season. The Bulldogs are 6-3 with a game against Utah Valley scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
? Fresno State is hitting .235 as a team and is led by Haley Perkins, who hits at a .367 clip. Haley Gilleland is a .357 hitter while Michelle Moses has driven in a team-high seven runs.
? The Bulldogs haven't run much this season but their success rate has been perfect, compiling three stolen bases in as many attempts.
? In the circle, Morgan Melloh is 4-2 with a 2.42 ERA while Mackenzie Oakes is 2-0 and boasts a team-best 1.75 ERA. Melloh has 56 strikeouts in 2009 and limits opponents to a .170 batting average.
