In order to give Cyclone fans an inside look at the Iowa State women's basketball team throughtout the season, head coach Bill Fennelly and members of the ISU team will be posting a weekly blog at cyclones.com on each Tuesday throughout the school year.
Fans will have a chance to hear directly from Coach Fennelly throughout the season about how practice is going, how the team is doing during the season, and what he sees as the staples of the ISU women's basketball program. Players will talk to you each week about their perspective of school life, practices, games, and the daily hurdles of being a Division I student-athlete.
Coach Fennelly writes to you this week to express his gratitude and excitement over the past weekend. It was a special weekend as the Cyclones held a letterwinners reunion and specially recognized the 10-year anniversary of the Elite Eight team at halftime of the game against Kansas State. Next week, check back as Alison Lacey talk about the players' mindsets as the calendar turns to February and postseason talk begins to pick up.
I have to start my turn to "blog" with our great Cyclone Fans as my thoughts are on one of the best weekends in my time at Iowa State. I want to thank all of the people who made it possible to have the women's basketball letterwinners return to campus this past weekend. The highlight was celebrating the 10-year anniversary of our Elite Eight team, but EVERYONE who has played at Iowa State has done their best to help make Cyclone Women's Basketball a program that has become a great source of pride for Iowa State. I can not tell you how exciting it was to see so many players return, as well as meeting some who also returned for the weekend. The amazing standing ovation, over 11,000 fans gave all the former players at halftime, was a very emotional moment for all of us!

On the court, our current Cyclone team did their job by defeating #12 Kansas State 60-50. I was very proud of how hard we played and how we finished the game with great effort and execution. You have to do that if you are going to beat a team the caliber of K-State. It was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend!
Now the calendar turns to February and the intensity is turned up as well in the race for postseason play. We are in one of the tougher stretches of our season and it continues when #10 Texas A&M comes to Hilton Coliseum on Wednesday.
Lastly, I wanted to again remind you of our Pink Zone game on February 15th. We will be hosting a great Texas team at 2:30pm in a game that will be televised by ESPN2. We are asking all the fans to wear pink (and the Cyclones will be in pink too) in order to bring awareness to the fight against breast cancer. This has hit our sport with the loss of Hall of Famer Kay Yow, and our family at Iowa State with the courageous battle Teresa McDermott has fought against this disease. This is an event that is going on in arenas all over the country this month. I hope the game at Hilton will be one of the best, and what a way to show our support for such a great cause to a national audience!
Thanks as always for your support of our program and all the outstanding Cyclone student-athletes. We will see you at Hilton!
