In order to give Cyclone fans an inside look at the Iowa State women's basketball team throughtout the season, head coach Bill Fennelly and members of the ISU team will be posting a weekly blog at cyclones.com on each Tuesday throughout the school year.
Fans will have a chance to hear directly from Coach Fennelly throughout the season about how practice is going, how the team is doing during the season, and what he sees as the staples of the ISU women's basketball program. Players will talk to you each week about their perspective of school life, practices, games, and the daily hurdles of being a Division I student-athlete.
Heather Ezell chimes in today after watching the NCAA Selection Show with her teammates and coaches on Monday night. She talks about her thoughts on her final NCAA Championship appearance and the upcoming trip to Bowling Green, Ky. Check back next Tuesday as senior Amanda Nisleit either talks about the Cyclones' second-round game or wraps up the season.
Hello Cyclone Fans,
It ' s my favorite time of the year, March Madness, and yesterday was one of the best days of the year with it being Selection Monday. We are all very excited for the NCAA Tournament and can't wait to get the whole experience underway. As most of you know we will be traveling to Bowling Green, Ky., and we are playing East Tennessee State in our first round game. Although many of us were hoping for a tropical venue on the west coast, we are all very happy with Kentucky, especially since it 's a little closer to Ames, which makes the trip for fans and us a little easier.

This week is Iowa State's spring break and I don't think any of us are upset that we are in Ames practicing for the NCAA Tournament. It's the fourth year in a row I have spent Spring Break in Ames and honestly I wouldn't want it any other way. I am excited to participate in the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row and the last time in my career. I know everyone on the team will give it everything they've got and we will all have the mind set of "survive and advance." A big thing this team has been saying all year is "not tonight." We know that eventually our season will end and some of our careers will be over, but not tonight. This especially will be our mind set throughout the NCAA Tournament.
I want to thank everyone that made the trip down to Oklahoma City this past weekend. I always love seeing our fans outnumber other teams' fans, even when those other teams don't have to travel as far. You all truly are the best! The Big 12 Tournament was a little different for me this year and not just because it was my last one. Since I injured my hand in practice the day we left for Oklahoma City, I realized that I might not get to play in my last Big 12 Tournament. I did not take this very well. The hardest thing I've ever had to do in my four years at Iowa State was sitting out our first round game against Texas on Friday. It was the first game I have ever missed in my four years and I didn't want to do it, but I knew it was best and I tried to do everything I could for my team from the bench, and the team did everything they could for me on the court. So of course when the semifinal game on Saturday came around, there was no way to keep me off the court. After the tournament was over I looked back on it and although it did not go the ways I wanted it to, it will always be a memory as an Iowa State Cyclone that I will never forget.
As for now, we will spend the week preparing for our first round game of the NCAA Tournament, as well as enjoying the nice weather here in Ames. I will also do some spring cleaning around my apartment this week, with my main project being to make a life-size NCAA bracket on my bedroom wall with chalk... I think it is doable. Aside from that, I am hoping for my hand to be 100% by the end of the week and praying for no other injuries along the way!
Thank you for all your support this season, and I hope to see MANY of you down in Bowling Green, Ky. on Sunday!
Until next time, have a great day and GO Cyclones!
