AMES, Iowa?Saturday's Big 12 Gymnastics Championship in Hilton Coliseum is just three days away. This week cyclones.com will provide a daily breakdown of each event in the order the Cyclones will compete in Saturday's meet, culminating with a look at the all-arounders and the team competition Friday. The Cyclones should be full of confidence on bars after scoring a season-high 49.325 in their last meet. The effort tied for the fifth-best bars performance in Iowa State gymnastics history. Ceilia Maccani has proven to be a key bars worker for the Cyclones this season. The Racine, Wis., native scored a career-best 9.925 on Feb. 20 in a performance that tied for the fourth-highest score in program history.
Ranked eighth nationally, Oklahoma leads the Big 12 schools on bars this season. The Sooners enter with a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 49.145 and a season high of 49.250. Nebraska is next, as the Cornhuskers are 14th in the country, with an RQS of 49.025 and a season high of 49.300. The Cyclones stand in third on bars heading into Saturday's meet, ranked 16th. Iowa State has an RQS of 48.795 and the Cyclones' score of 49.325 in last Friday's meet is the highest in the Big 12 this season. Missouri is ranked 19th nationally with an RQS of 48.920 and a season high of 49.150.
Hollie Vise of Oklahoma is the favorite to win the league crown Saturday. The Sooner is the lone Big 12 gymnast ranked in the top 25 on bars. She boasts an RQS of 9.870 and a season high of 9.900.
The Cyclones' last event at the Big 12 Championship, balance beam, will be previewed Thursday.
The fight for the bars title and the Big 12 crown starts Saturday at 2 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
