AMES, Iowa?Saturday's Big 12 Gymnastics Championship in Hilton Coliseum is just two days away. This week cyclones.com will provide a daily breakdown of each event in the order the Cyclones will compete in Saturday's meet, culminating with a look at the all-arounders and the team competition Friday. The Cyclones, at times, have been inconsistent on beam this season, but have shown when they stay on the equipment they can compete with the nation's best. Iowa State enters the meet tied for 22nd in the country. The Cyclones have a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 48.795 and a season best of 49.000. Jasmine Thompson boasts the team's season high with a 9.900. ISU should be bolstered by the return of Megan Barnes, who has been out of the beam lineup the past five meets due to injury.
Oklahoma is the highest ranked Big 12 team, at sixth. The Sooners have an RQS of 49.175 and a season high of 49.525. Nebraska and Missouri are ranked 15 and 16, respectively. The Cornhuskers carry an RQS of 48.930 and a season high of 49.125, while the Tigers have an RQS of 48.925 and a campaign best of 49.250.
Nebraska's Tricia Woo headlines an impressive group on beam. Woo, a beam All-American, is ranked third in the country on the apparatus with an RQS of 9.915 and a season high of 9.950.
Missouri's Sarah Shire is right on Woo's heels, as the Tiger is ranked sixth. Shire has an RQS of 9.900 and a season best of 9.925. Hollie Vise of Oklahoma is eighth nationally with an RQS of 9.890 and season high of 9.950. Vise's teammate, Megan Ferguson, rounds out the Big 12 gymnasts ranked nationally on beam. Ferguson is tied for 23rd nationally, scoring a 9.865 RQS and a season high of 9.925.
On Friday, the all-arounders and team competition will be previewed.
