AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State freshmen Ashley Arlen and Alexis Yackley have decided to transfer, women's basketball coach Bill Fennelly announced Monday.
“Ashley and Alexis have decided to leave Iowa State,” Fennelly said. “They want to find another level of program where they can possibly obtain more playing time. I thank them for their contributions to our Elite Eight team and wish them the best in the future.”
Arlen saw time in 34 games last season, playing 9.4 minutes per contest. The Cascade, Iowa, native averaged 3.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per contest in her freshman campaign. She shot 43.2 percent (41-95) from the field and was 4-of-12 from three-point range.
“I have met some great people and have learned a lot in the last year, but I don't think this is the right fit for me at this time,” Arlen said. “I have not made any future plans at this point. I want to thank coach Fennelly and the coaching staff for giving me the chance to play basketball at Iowa State. I will never forget my teammates and the memories we made last season.”
Yackley earned playing time in 25 contests, seeing 6.4 minutes per game. She averaged two points, while shooting 28.6 percent (12-42) from the field. She also went 8-for-28 (.286) from beyond the arc and posted 19 assists to 17 turnovers.
“I'm grateful to the coaching staff for allowing me to play here this year,” Yackley said. “It's been a great year, and I will never forget it. I do not regret coming to Iowa State, but I think it is in my best interest to explore other options.”
