The 2008-09 senior class has much to be proud of as one of the most distinguished teams in school history. They earned three NCAA Championship berths, only missing out as freshmen, and climbed to the NCAA Elite Eight in their final campaign, matching the best performance in ISU's history. They have won 92 games in their careers and matched the school record for single-season wins with 27 this season.
Heather Ezell and Toccara Ross have each completed two degrees. Ezell, a Springfield, Mo., native has completed degrees in marketing and management and Ross, a native of Davenport, Iowa, will collect degrees in communications and speech communications on Saturday. Ankeny, Iowa, native Nicky Wieben will be awarded a degree in communication studies and Jocelyn Anderson, a native of Gowrie, Iowa, has finished her degree in accounting after just two years at ISU. Amanda Nisleit has finished coursework in elementary education and has to student teach in the fall to finish up her final requirements.
“It's a great feeling to get my degree after what seems like a long four years (as far as classes go),” Ezell said. “Walking across the stage with my diploma in hand will be a memory I will never forget.”
Mosman, ISU's lone junior (in athletic eligibility), has finished her coursework in three years for a degree in accounting. The Carroll, Iowa, native has worked hard to finish in just three years with a plan to finish her master's of business administration in her fourth season of athletic eligibility. She will take a couple of graduate classes this summer in London and will be on track to finish her master's degree next May.
“One of the most amazing things I have seen in my coaching life is the fact that Shellie graduated with a degree in only three years,” Fennelly said. “As she finishes her playing career she will be working on her master's degree. This is something that is almost unheard of in college sports and speaks to her amazing work ethic.”
