AMES, Iowa - Iowa State senior guard Kelsey Bolte has been named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Conference team for the first time in her career, the league announced Tuesday. Bolte was selected by the Big 12's coaches, becoming the first Cyclone since Lyndsey Medders in 2006-07 to earn a spot on the team. Alison Lacey was an honorable mention selection the previous two seasons.
"To be mentioned with the other great players in the Big 12 is a tremendous honor for Kelsey," Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly said. "It is obvious the coaches in the league are expecting a big year, as I am, from Kelsey."
Bolte has been named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention the past two seasons. She was Iowa State's second-leading scorer last year with 12.3 points a game and led the team with 84 three-pointers - good for second in the Big 12. Bolte also contributed 4.5 rebounds a game and dished out 48 assists.
The Ida Grove, Iowa native is 19th all time at Iowa State with 1,082 career points. She ranks ninth with 188 career three-pointers and is Iowa State's career leader in free-throw percentage at .873.
Baylor, the preseason pick to win the conference, became the first women's or men's team to sweep the three preseason individual awards. Brittney Griner was named 2010-11 Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, Brooklyn Pope was the preseason newcomer of the year and Odyssey Sims was named the preseason freshman of the year.
Joining Bolte on the preseason All-Big 12 team were Griner, Melissa Jones (Baylor), Danielle Robinson (Oklahoma) and Danielle Adams (Texas A&M).
Honorable mention picks were Brittany Spears (Colorado), Carolyn Davis (Kansas), Dominique Kelley (Nebraska), Whitney Hand (Oklahoma), Ashleigh Fontenette (Texas), Kathleen Nash (Texas), Sydney Colson (Texas A&M) and Tyra White (Texas A&M).
